Cambridge 4024
Cambridge O Level Mathematics — officially "Mathematics (Syllabus D)", code 4024 — is a distinct qualification from Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580). The two share roughly the same age range and much of the same underlying content, but they are set, timetabled, and graded as separate syllabuses with separate paper structures. A tutor who has only ever prepared students for 0580 will not automatically know the 4024 paper format, and vice versa. LatteTutors tags every verified maths tutor with the exact syllabus code they teach so this mix-up never reaches your child's tuition.
For the current 2025–2027 cycle, 4024 is assessed through two compulsory written papers, each two hours long and worth 100 marks — together forming 100% of the final grade. Paper 1 is the non-calculator paper: no calculator of any kind is permitted, and questions draw on the full syllabus content using mental arithmetic, algebraic manipulation, and exact-value working. Paper 2 requires a scientific calculator and again draws on the whole syllabus, but with numerical answers typically expected to three significant figures unless the question states otherwise. Both papers mix structured, multi-part questions with shorter unstructured items, and grades run from A* down to E — there is no Core/Extended tiering in 4024, unlike some other Cambridge maths syllabuses.
Cambridge's own assessment objectives split the marks into two broad bands: "knowledge and understanding of mathematical techniques" (roughly 40–50% of each paper) and "analyse, interpret and communicate mathematically" (roughly 50–60% of each paper). In practice this means a student who has memorised formulas but cannot apply them to an unfamiliar word problem, or who cannot show clear working, will lose marks even with the right final answer. A formula list is printed on the paper, so tutoring time is far better spent on applying and combining techniques than on rote memorisation.
The 4024 subject content is organised around six broad strands, and every verified LatteTutors maths tutor is expected to be comfortable teaching across all of them, not just the ones a school happens to be covering that term:
Because both papers can draw on any part of this content, topics cannot be studied in isolation the way a single-term school unit might suggest. A tutor preparing a student for Paper 1 in particular needs to drill exact-value and mental-method fluency — surds, fractions kept as fractions, and algebraic simplification without reaching for a calculator — since that paper specifically tests whether a student can work without one.
LatteTutors' verified 4024 tutors consistently flag the same handful of weak points across Dhaka's English medium schools. Classroom time is usually enough to introduce every topic on the syllabus, but not always enough to build the specific exam habits Cambridge rewards.
A LatteTutors-verified O Level Mathematics tutor has themselves studied to at least this level, has been interviewed specifically on 4024 content and paper structure, and has been observed teaching before being placed with a family. That verification matters because Syllabus D rewards exam craft as much as raw ability: knowing how many marks a question is worth, how much working to show, and where the non-calculator paper is likely to test exact values rather than approximations.
In practice, sessions tend to split time between topic teaching (closing genuine content gaps — commonly geometry, vectors, or quadratic methods) and exam technique (past-paper questions marked against the real Cambridge mark scheme, with specific feedback on where marks were lost for presentation rather than mathematics). Tutors also track which paper — 1 or 2 — a student is weaker on, since the two require noticeably different habits.
LatteTutors does not promise a specific grade outcome, and does not award or certify the Cambridge qualification itself — Cambridge Assessment International Education sets and marks the actual exam. What we commit to is the process: Response within 2 hours. Matched with a verified tutor within 48 hours. Every tutor placed for 4024 has been checked against this specific syllabus, not "maths" in the abstract.

Cambridge runs 4024 in two series each year — May/June and October/November — and most Dhaka English medium schools enter students for the May/June series to align with the academic year. Because there is no coursework component, the entire grade rests on performance across the two exam papers on the day, which makes deliberate, paper-specific practice far more valuable than general revision in the final months.
Retakes are possible in the next available series if a student sits in May/June and wants another attempt in October/November of the same year, but retakes work best when paired with a clear diagnosis of exactly which topics or paper cost the most marks the first time — something a subject-specific tutor is far better placed to identify than a generic revision guide.
